A small detachment was all that was left of the wartime 2^nd Battalion, 5^th Cavalry.  It  included  LTC Bieri, the battalion Sergeant Major, and the company commanders.  They departed Vietnam with the battalion colors and company guidons, and flew to Dallas, Texas on April 1^st.  From there they traveled to the new home of the 1^st Cavalry Division -  Ft. Hood, Texas.  CPT Adolf Carlson, the last commander of C 2/5 Cav in Vietnam, was privileged to carry our guidon to Ft. Hood. 

Company C,  2^nd Battalion, 5^th Cavalry was officially inactivated at Ft. Hood on July 31^st, 1972.  Today, it is a part of the 1^st Cavalry Division again, serving as  a mechanized infantry company.  (Sources:  Dolf Carlson, Wm.
